Dexed Features

Features:

  1. Multi-platform and Multi-format: It works on different operating systems like OS X, Windows, or Linux, and supports various plugin formats like VST, AU, and LV2.
  2. Based on the DX7 Sound Engine: It's designed to sound like the original DX7 synthesizer.
  3. Easy Control: You can adjust 144 different parameters of the synthesizer from one panel in your digital audio workstation (DAW).
  4. Support for DX7 Messages: It can send and receive messages to and from a native DX7 or TX7 synthesizer, including controller changes. This makes it useful as a patch editor and manager for these synthesizers.
  5. Real-time Feedback: Each operator (part of the synthesizer) has a VU meter that shows you which one is currently active.
  6. Save and Load Programs: You can save and load programs (sound settings) for the DX7 or TX7 synthesizers, either individually or as a whole bank of sounds.

Engine Types:

  1. Modern Engine: This is the default engine, similar to the original implementation found in music-synthesizer-for-android, operating at 24-bit resolution. It's the most up-to-date version.
  2. Mark I Engine: This engine is based on the OPL Series but with higher resolution lookup tables (LUTs) set at 10-bits. The goal here is to closely mimic the characteristics of the real DX7 synthesizer.
  3. OPL Series Engine: This is an experimental implementation based on reverse-engineered OPL family chips, operating at 8-bit resolution. However, it's still in the development stage, so the envelopes (part of the sound shaping process) might need adjustments for optimal performance.

These different engine types allow users to compare and choose the one that best suits their needs or preferences.
